Appalachian State University

Appalachian State University is nestled at the base of Howard’s Knob in scenic downtown Boone.  The university boasts a student/faculty ratio of 17:1 and an average class size of 25, creating an environment of higher learning with close personal attention to each student. It has just over 16,000 students enrolled and supports the tuition waiver for residents over the age of 65.

Appalachian has five undergraduate colleges, one graduate school and a music school.  The university has fostered exchange programs with 41 universities in 17 countries and is part of the global academic family.  With an emphasis on volunteerism, athletics, and campus sustainability, Appalachian is a dynamic atmosphere for students of all ages.

The quality of the education at Appalachian has been recognized in national publications such as U.S. News & World Report’s 2010 America’s Best Colleges Guide, Consumers Digest’s listing of the top 50 best values for public colleges and universities and Kiplinger’s Personal Finance’s “100 Best Values in Public Colleges.”
